BP students really enjoyed sharing the DCF books, most recently The Mark of the Dragonfly and Ice Dogs. The DCF statewide winner for 2016 was El Deafo, but in our school the winner was Gabriel Finley and the Raven's Riddle.

Author Visit Fun

Our Visiting Author, John Steven Gurney, was a delightful guest on April 7th. He is a celebrated illustrator and an author, and he had students and teachers drawing up a storm in the classrooms! Most of our drawings had a surprise ending. Ask your child about the surprise!

I Love to Read & Write Week

I Love to Read & Write is just around the corner! Our big week of events is February 15-19, the week prior to February break.  There are multiple events scheduled, but the most exciting will be our Visiting Author/Illustrator John Steven Gurney.  John illustrated the very popular chapter book mysteries, the A to Z Mystery series. More recently, he wrote and illustrated Dinosaur Train. John will be visiting us all day on Tuesday, February 16h. He will present to the whole school at 7:50 in the morning and then work in classes with student writing activities throughout the day. (Copies of Dinosaur Train will be available at school on  that day.)
The proceeds from our Scholastic Book Fair funds the author visit at Brewster-Pierce. Many thanks to everyone for supporting our library by supporting our book fair!
There will be lots of special activities throughout the week, in addition to our author visit. The Great Book Give-away will be held Monday morning, the ever-popular Staff Play will be at Friday’s All School Morning Meeting (2/19), Guest Readers will be invited into classrooms, and Drop Everything And Read (DEAR) will pop up at unexpected times each day. Encourage your child to share the week’s highlights with you, and feel free to join us on Tuesday and Friday mornings for our special activities.

DCF Award Readers Create Movies
Fourth Grade students are reading the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award Nominees with Mrs. Irish in the library. There have been groups reading The Fourteenth Goldfish, Seven Stories Up, and Gabriel Finley and the Raven's Riddle. The Seven Stories Up group recently made short videos about the book and the research they did related to the book. They used the DoInk app on the iPad. Enjoy the short movies they created here.

Success at the Book Fair!

This year's Monster Book Fair was a great success! The fair sold over $4200 in Scholastic books and supplies, and our profit was about $1,000. Many thanks to all the shoppers, volunteers, and PIE for helping organize the book fair. Final totals are still outstanding, as the online shopping continues through Thursday, December 3. Also, at least 16 books were donated to the classrooms!

Especially at this time of year, I am so grateful to the Brewster-Pierce community for supporting the library programs and encouraging young readers.                                                                        -Mrs. Irish

Did you miss the Scholastic Book Fair? Are you wishing you'd bought that special book after all? Was your selection out of stock? Then you're in luck!

The online sales are still available through December 3, this Thursday! Items purchased online still count toward the fundraising total and they are guaranteed to arrive in time for Christmas, delivered to the school library. (Mrs. Irish will notify you as items are delivered.)

Thank you all so much for supporting the BPMS library! It has been a pleasure seeing so many happy readers all this week!
